Italy

Naples, Tuscany & living history

Italy is the most sensuous version of the mandoff: a long first look at Rome, four nights in the city that invented the pizza you love, Renaissance Florence, and a proper countryside chapter among the cypress lanes of Val d’Orcia.

Taiwan + Singapore

Singapore systems, Taiwan soul & mountain light

Singapore and Taiwan make a surprisingly elegant pair: four nights inside Singapore’s visible operating system, then Taipei energy, a hot-spring exhale, Sun Moon Lake, Alishan forest and temple-rich Tainan. The technology story stays compact but unusually strong—city planning and advanced manufacturing in Singapore, then the semiconductor ecosystem in Hsinchu.

Route
Singapore 4 → Taipei 4 → Jiaoxi 2 → Sun Moon Lake 2 → Alishan 2 → Tainan 2 → Singapore 1

China

Robotics capitals & mountains that should not exist

This is no longer a conventional first-China checklist. It begins in the country’s most visible future—Shenzhen’s drones and service robots, Guangzhou’s autonomous mobility—then breaks open into Wulingyuan’s ‘floating’ sandstone pillars and Tianmen Mountain before returning to Chongqing’s impossible vertical city, Hangzhou’s quadrupeds and Shanghai’s public-facing robots.

Route
Shenzhen 5 → Guangzhou 1 → Zhangjiajie 4 → Chongqing 2 → Hangzhou 3 → Shanghai 2

Weather

Australia

Harbours, coast roads & wild scale

Australia is the cinematic choice: Sydney’s harbour, an island road trip through Hobart, Freycinet and Cradle Mountain, then Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road before a protected return to Sydney.

Route
Sydney 1 → Tasmania 6 → Melbourne & Great Ocean Road 5 → Sydney 3

Weather
1–24°C · Spring in the cities; four-season risk in Tasmania and on the coast.

Japan

A slower return beyond the classics

Japan again, but nothing repeated: Tokyo is only a gateway sleep. The journey follows late autumn north through temple mountains, samurai country, gorge boats, forest streams and Hokkaido’s first winter light.

Netherlands + Belgium

Dutch clarity meets Flemish grandeur

This is now a two-country Low Countries journey: canal light in Amsterdam, blue-hour Delft and Rotterdam’s giant port machinery flow naturally by rail into Ghent’s medieval skyline, a Bruges day before the crowds, Brussels Art Nouveau and Antwerp’s cathedral-like station.

Route
Amsterdam 4 → Delft 3 → Ghent 3 → Brussels 3 → Schiphol 1

Weather
9–20°C · Mild maritime autumn across both countries—breezy, changeable and rain-shell weather.

Switzerland

Railways, lakes & alpine stillness

Switzerland is the purest scenery journey: lake steamers and cog railways, four unhurried nights above Lauterbrunnen, vineyard terraces over Lake Geneva, and three chances to meet the Matterhorn in clear light.

South Africa

Cape light, the Garden Route and a real safari

South Africa is the journey with the widest emotional range: Table Mountain above a cosmopolitan city, penguins and Atlantic cliffs, the cultivated calm of the Winelands, indigenous forest along the Garden Route and three nights listening for wildlife in the dark.

New Zealand

A slow South Island arc with room for the sky

New Zealand is the journey for scale and silence. After one protected Auckland night, the route moves slowly through Queenstown, Fiordland, Wānaka, Aoraki and Christchurch—six bases, no one-night alpine dash, and enough slack for spring weather to rewrite a day without breaking the trip.

Auckland 1 → Queenstown 4 → Te Anau 3 → Wānaka 2 → Aoraki / Mount Cook 2 → Christchurch 3

Türkiye

Five Istanbul nights and a road through older worlds

Türkiye moves through radically different atmospheres without becoming frantic: five ferry-and-mosque days in Istanbul, four nights among Cappadocia’s volcanic valleys, three by Antalya’s Mediterranean old town and three in Selçuk for Ephesus and the Aegean interior.

Route
Istanbul 5 → Cappadocia 4 → Antalya 3 → Selçuk 3 → Istanbul airport 1

Greece

A mainland journey for the quieter season

Greece in late October should not pretend to be an island summer. This version leans into the season: Athens at human scale, a small Peloponnese road loop through Nafplio and Monemvasia, then the sacred landscapes of Delphi and Meteora before a protected Athenian finish.

Route
Athens 4 → Nafplio 3 → Monemvasia 2 → Delphi 2 → Meteora 2 → Athens 2

Iceland

A conservative road trip at the edge of winter

Iceland is not presented as an easy autumn Ring Road. This is a deliberately conservative southwest-and-south-coast route with four Reykjavík nights, double nights in exposed regions, no northern sector and a final Keflavík buffer. Every scenic day has a weather-safe alternative or permission to stop.

Route
Reykjavík 4 → Vík 3 → Jökulsárlón / Höfn 2 → Golden Circle 2 → Snæfellsnes 3 → Keflavík 1
Detail
6 base chapters + 18-day timeline
Weather
−1–8°C · Shortening daylight, wind, rain, ice and possible early snow—beautiful but operationally serious.

The calendar logic

Ten leave days become eighteen calendar days.

Italy, China, Japan and the main long-haul options use 24 October–10 November: two working weeks of leave, three weekends, and the traveller’s 9–10 November holidays. The return is before the first team handoff begins on 11 November.

24–25 OctWeekend departure
26–30 Oct5 leave days
31 Oct–1 NovWeekend
2–6 Nov5 leave days
7–8 NovWeekend
9–10 NovTraveller’s holidays

Netherlands + Belgium uses 11–28 September; Switzerland uses 12–28 September around the 14 September holiday, avoiding the November team handoffs entirely. Taiwan + Singapore and the five newly added long-haul routes use the main 24 October–10 November window.
