The proposition

Singapore systems, Taiwan soul & mountain light

Singapore and Taiwan make a surprisingly elegant pair: four nights inside Singapore’s visible operating system, then Taipei energy, a hot-spring exhale, Sun Moon Lake, Alishan forest and temple-rich Tainan. The technology story stays compact but unusually strong—city planning and advanced manufacturing in Singapore, then the semiconductor ecosystem in Hsinchu.

This is stronger than stretching Singapore alone to eleven days. The nonstop Bengaluru–Singapore ticket becomes the long-haul spine; a separate Singapore–Taipei return creates a thirteen-calendar-day Taiwan stay, safely inside the fourteen-day ROC Travel Authorization Certificate allowance when both travellers qualify.

Singapore · Arrival Chapter

The tropical, frictionless opening

Singapore is a real first chapter, not an airport stop. Four nights create three full days: one for the civic and heritage core, one for gardens and Marina Bay, and one for the city’s planning and manufacturing story. The nonstop from Bengaluru makes it a gentle launch before the regional flight to Taiwan.

Best base
Bencoolen, Bras Basah or City Hall. One central hotel gives direct MRT access and lets outdoor mornings alternate with air-conditioned afternoons.
Arriving
The preferred nonstop reaches Changi in the evening. Use MRT or a fixed app taxi, eat near the hotel and resist beginning the attraction list.
Moving on
Take the morning nonstop to Taipei on Day 5. Reach Changi three hours early and price Scoot with checked baggage before comparing it with full-service fares.
Expected weather
Usually 25–33°C, very humid, with hard tropical showers and lightning. Outdoor mornings and indoor midday chapters are the basic rhythm.
Getting around
MRT and buses cover almost everything. Use contactless payment or an EZ-Link card; keep a small Grab budget for storms and late returns.
Vegetarian reality
Little India and dedicated Buddhist vegetarian restaurants are the safest anchors. At hawker centres, confirm oyster sauce, fish sauce, shrimp paste, lard, stock and egg.

What makes the cut

  • Civic District, Singapore River and National Gallery
  • Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam as living neighbourhoods
  • Botanic Gardens or Cloud Forest during the wettest hours
  • Singapore City Gallery plus one public manufacturing visit

Reserve ahead

Gardens conservatories if using a dated ticket and HMGICS public-tour slots when released. Most neighbourhood walks should remain weather-flexible.

Your days here

D1 · Sat 24 OctA soft landing in the future

Singapore Airlines 11:35 → 19:00 nonstop. Check in around Bencoolen or City Hall, eat nearby and stop.

D2 · Sun 25 OctThe city explains itself

Civic District, National Gallery and the river, with Marina Bay after the heat loosens.

D3 · Mon 26 OctPlans, temples and neighbourhoods

Singapore City Gallery, Chinatown and Tiong Bahru. Keep the day walkable rather than encyclopedic.

D4 · Tue 27 OctGardens and manufacturing

Botanic Gardens early; HMGICS Discovery Tour if a slot is secured, otherwise Gardens by the Bay and Supertrees after dark.

Taipei 101 above the city02 / 07

4 nights

Taipei

The energetic city base and weather-flex hub

Taipei is easy to understand by district rather than attraction count. Longshan and Bopiliao introduce old Taipei; Dihua Street and Dadaocheng give a slower mercantile layer; Taipei 101 and Xinyi provide the modern skyline. One day remains interchangeable between Jiufen–Shifen, Hsinchu’s semiconductor story and an indoor city day if the northeast monsoon turns wet.

Best base
Zhongshan or the Taipei Main Station edge provides airport-rail, THSR and metro access. Ximending is livelier but noisier.
Arriving
Taoyuan Airport MRT to Taipei Main takes about 35–50 minutes depending on service. Buy an EasyCard for metro, buses and small purchases.
Moving on
Take the TRA east to Jiaoxi after the fourth night. Send any large luggage ahead if it makes the hot-spring and mountain transfers calmer.
Expected weather
Usually 19–26°C, humid, with northeast-monsoon showers possible. Rain can be persistent around Jiufen.
Getting around
Metro plus walking covers most days. Use TRA for Ruifang/Jiufen connections and THSR for Hsinchu or the south.
Vegetarian reality
Taipei is excellent for vegan and Buddhist vegetarian food. Night-market vegetables may still contain oyster sauce, fish powder, egg or lard.

What makes the cut

  • Longshan Temple, Bopiliao and an old-neighbourhood first evening
  • Dihua Street, Dadaocheng wharf and Zhongshan
  • Taipei 101 at blue hour
  • One flex day: Jiufen/Shifen, silicon, or museums in rain

Reserve ahead

Taipei 101 observatory if sunset matters; National Palace Museum needs time but not an overbuilt day. Hsinchu public visits should be confirmed before giving up a Taipei day.

Your days here

D5 · Wed 28 OctAcross one sea

Scoot 08:10 → 12:45 nonstop. Longshan Temple, Bopiliao and an early night.

D6 · Thu 29 OctOld and new Taipei

Dihua Street, Dadaocheng, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall and Taipei 101 at twilight.

D7 · Fri 30 OctLantern weather day

Jiufen and Shifen if dry; museums, Beitou or cafés if the northeast monsoon arrives.

D8 · Sat 31 OctSilicon or tea

Choose Hsinchu and the TSMC Museum context or Maokong gondola and tea. Never attempt both.

Green hills of northeastern Taiwan03 / 07

2 nights

Jiaoxi

A low-effort hot-spring exhale

Jiaoxi is intentionally modest. After Taipei, two nights give you mineral-water bathing, an easy waterfall outing and an early bedtime before the island’s longer transfer days. It is not meant to compete with Taiwan’s headline sights; it improves the pace of the whole journey.

Best base
Within walking distance of Jiaoxi station, ideally with a private in-room stone bath. Check whether the quoted room actually includes hot-spring water.
Arriving
TRA train from Taipei takes roughly 1–1½ hours. Avoid transferring through a distant Yilan property incorrectly labelled as Jiaoxi.
Moving on
Train back toward Taipei/THSR connection, then south to Taichung for the Sun Moon Lake bus. Keep generous interchange time.
Expected weather
Around 18–25°C and among the wetter parts of the route. Waterfall paths can be slippery.
Getting around
Walk the compact centre and use local bus/taxi for Wufengqi. This is a rest stop, so resist adding a rental car.
Vegetarian reality
Confirm hotel breakfast; congee side dishes may contain fish floss or egg. Save one vegetarian restaurant and buy train-day provisions.

What makes the cut

  • Wufengqi Waterfall if paths are open
  • Two private hot-spring sessions
  • A quiet Yilan countryside or coast half-day
  • Early dinner and sleep before the cross-island transfer

Reserve ahead

The room with private bath matters more than any attraction ticket. Book a flexible rate and verify check-in/out access to the bath.

Your days here

D9 · Sun 1 NovThe hot-spring exhale

Short rail ride, Wufengqi Waterfall and a private mineral-water soak.

D10 · Mon 2 NovYilan at half speed

Coast, rice fields or simply a second long soak and early dinner.

Sun Moon Lake surrounded by forested hills04 / 07

2 nights

Sun Moon Lake

The slow centre of the island

Two nights let the lake work as landscape rather than a bus-tour stop. Stay in Shuishe for transport convenience, cycle before tour groups arrive, use the boats and spend an evening on the less dramatic pleasure of boardwalks, tea and changing light.

Best base
Shuishe is best for bus arrivals, bicycle hire and the onward Alishan connection. Ita Thao has more evening food but is less convenient for transfers.
Arriving
THSR to Taichung, then Nantou Bus to Shuishe. Check that luggage space and the final departure still match the 2026 timetable.
Moving on
Use the limited direct lake–Alishan bus only if the published schedule is robust; otherwise go via Taichung/Chiayi.
Expected weather
Approximately 16–24°C with cooler mornings, mist and occasional showers.
Getting around
Boat, bus and bicycle. Do not attempt the entire lake cycle unless both fitness and traffic comfort are high; a scenic section is enough.
Vegetarian reality
Shuishe has limited late-evening choice. Save restaurant names in Chinese and keep a simple hotel-room dinner backup.

What makes the cut

  • Early Shuishe–Xiangshan cycle segment
  • Boat loop and Wenwu Temple
  • Ci’en Pagoda or a forest trail
  • One sunset with no transport objective

Reserve ahead

Cancellable lake-view room if the premium is reasonable; bicycle and boat tickets can usually remain flexible.

Your days here

D11 · Tue 3 NovInto the green middle

Rail/HSR and lake shuttle. Check in, boardwalk and sunset.

D12 · Wed 4 NovWater, wheels and temples

Early cycle, boat loop, Wenwu Temple and a quiet lakeside evening.

Alishan forest railway in the mountains05 / 07

2 nights

Alishan

Mountain railway, cedar forest and optional dawn

Alishan rewards staying inside the recreation area. Two nights protect against a cloudy sunrise and let the forest become more than a predawn photo stop. The giant-tree paths, small trains and mist are the real experience; sunrise is a bonus, not the reason to sacrifice sleep in bad cloud.

Best base
Inside Alishan National Scenic Area, close enough to the station for the dawn train. Rooms are basic for the price, so location wins.
Arriving
Direct bus from Sun Moon Lake if operating, or bus/forest railway from Chiayi. Keep the last departure saved offline.
Moving on
Bus or forest railway down to Chiayi, then TRA/THSR to Tainan. Build time for luggage and mountain-road delays.
Expected weather
About 8–17°C by day and 5–10°C around sunrise; colder with wind, rain or heavy cloud.
Getting around
Walk signed forest paths and use the short mountain railway branches. Wear shoes with grip; timber steps stay wet.
Vegetarian reality
Food choice is narrow. Confirm hotel dinner, carry instant meals and snacks, and show the no-egg/no-stock card.

What makes the cut

  • Giant Tree Trail and Sisters Ponds
  • Forest railway rather than only a road transfer
  • Sunrise only with a credible visibility forecast
  • A warm, unhurried afternoon after day visitors leave

Reserve ahead

Hotel first; it controls the route. Dawn-train details are normally arranged locally once the next day’s schedule is posted.

Your days here

D13 · Thu 5 NovMountain transfer

Direct bus if the seasonal timetable aligns; otherwise travel via Chiayi.

D14 · Fri 6 NovForest before sunrise

Optional dawn train, giant-tree walk and an unhurried afternoon.

Historic Chihkan Tower in Tainan06 / 07

2 nights

Tainan

The warm, historic counterpoint

Tainan closes the loop with temple courtyards, Dutch-era layers and small streets that feel entirely different from Taipei. Two nights are enough if you stay central and treat food as a curated set of stops rather than trying to sample every famous snack.

Best base
West Central District, within easy taxi/walking reach of Chihkan Tower, Shennong Street and the Confucius Temple.
Arriving
THSR Tainan is outside the centre; use the local rail connection or taxi. TRA Tainan station is much more central.
Moving on
Take THSR to Taoyuan and the overnight regional flight to Singapore. Build a generous airport buffer and keep the Singapore hotel night protected.
Expected weather
Usually 21–28°C, warmer and often sunnier than Taipei. Midday sun still matters in November.
Getting around
Walk compact clusters and use taxis/buses between West Central and Anping. Cycling is possible but traffic confidence varies.
Vegetarian reality
Tainan’s famous snacks frequently use pork, shrimp powder, oyster sauce or egg. Make two dedicated vegetarian restaurants the anchors and treat market browsing as visual unless ingredients are clear.

What makes the cut

  • Chihkan Tower and the lanes around it
  • Confucius Temple and the old city centre
  • Shennong Street after dark
  • Anping Tree House and Fort Zeelandia area

Reserve ahead

Major sights usually do not need booking. Reserve the Saturday THSR north and any special vegetarian tasting meal.

Your days here

D15 · Sat 7 NovDown to the old capital

Forest railway/bus to Chiayi, train south and an evening around Shennong Street.

D16 · Sun 8 NovTemples and small plates

Chihkan Tower, Confucius Temple, Anping and careful vegetarian grazing.

Singapore · Return Buffer

The protected connection and soft landing home

The final Singapore night is deliberate insurance between a regional low-cost flight and the long-haul ticket home. It also means Taiwan entry remains within the 14-calendar-day TAC window if both travellers qualify. Sleep, use Jewel or finish one missed city chapter, and leave with the trip intact.

Best base
Changi, Expo or an east-side hotel with a reliable airport shuttle. This is not the night to cross the whole city for a fashionable room.
Arriving
The overnight Taipei flight reaches Singapore early. Store bags or request early check-in; do not plan an attraction before sleep and food.
Moving on
Use the 08:45 nonstop to Bengaluru on Day 18. Reach the operating terminal three hours before departure and separate Jewel time from airside formalities.
Expected weather
Still 25–33°C and storm-prone, but most of this chapter can remain indoors and operationally simple.
Getting around
Airport MRT, hotel shuttle or one taxi. Keep the final day geographically tiny.
Vegetarian reality
Jewel and the airport area have broad choice, but check egg in bakery items, kaya and noodles rather than assuming vegetarian equals egg-free.

What makes the cut

  • Sleep after the overnight regional flight
  • Jewel Forest Valley and Rain Vortex if energy returns
  • One final, verified vegetarian meal
  • A protected nonstop home

Reserve ahead

The hotel and checked baggage are the essential reservations. Everything else is optional.

Your days here

Scoot 01:45 → 06:25. Sleep, swim, repack and use Jewel only if energy returns.

Pack for the journey,
not the postcard.

This journey crosses three climates. Singapore is hot, humid and storm-prone; Taiwanese lowlands are warm and the northeast can be showery; Alishan before dawn can feel close to winter. Build swap days into both countries rather than fighting rain.

Singapore

Usually 25–33°C with high humidity, fast thunderstorms and strong indoor air-conditioning.

Taipei & Jiaoxi

About 19–26°C; humid with northeast-monsoon showers possible.

Tainan

Roughly 21–28°C; warmer, sunnier and often the easiest weather.

Sun Moon Lake

Around 16–24°C; cool mornings and a chance of mist.

Alishan

About 7–17°C by day; near 5–10°C around sunrise, colder with wind.

In the case
  • Compact umbrella
  • Breathable quick-dry layers
  • Warm fleece and beanie for Alishan
  • Shoes with wet-grip soles
  • Thin layer for Singapore air-conditioning

Visa reality

4 / 5 if TAC-eligible · two separate entry processes

Indian passport holders need a Singapore tourist visa through an authorized agent. For Taiwan, they may qualify for a free ROC Travel Authorization Certificate when they hold specified valid or recently expired visas/residence permits and can prove prior entry; otherwise use the regular visitor-visa path.

  1. Check both passports against Taiwan’s exact TAC qualification rules before booking the regional flights.
  2. The planned Taiwan stay is 28 Oct–9 Nov inclusive—thirteen calendar days, inside the fourteen-day TAC allowance.
  3. Apply for Singapore within the official thirty-day window through a currently authorized agent in the correct consular region.
  4. Print each Taiwan authorization and carry the qualifying visa plus proof of prior entry.
  5. Submit the free SG Arrival Card within three days of arrival and Taiwan Arrival Card within seven days of arrival.
Reddit pulse · anecdotal

Reddit feedback consistently treats Singapore’s authorized-agent process as routine but fee-opaque, while Taiwan’s TAC is described as effortless only when every supporting-visa condition is literally met. The useful lesson is to verify passport stamps, visa validity and agent charges rather than relying on remembered travel history.

Pure vegetarian · no egg

Carry the sentence.

我們吃素,也不吃蛋。請不要加肉、魚、海鮮、魚露、蠔油、豬油或任何肉湯。牛奶可以。

We are vegetarian and do not eat egg. No meat, fish, seafood, fish sauce, oyster sauce, lard or meat stock. Dairy is okay. Use the same Chinese card in both countries.
  • Buddhist vegetarian restaurants are the safest anchors in both countries; still repeat no egg.
  • Singapore hawker and Taiwanese night-market dishes may contain egg wash, fish powder, oyster sauce, shrimp paste or lard.
  • Little India is Singapore’s easiest fallback; Taipei and Tainan have the strongest Taiwanese vegan choice.
  • Carry food for the Sun Moon Lake–Alishan transfer and reconfirm rural hotel dinners.
