Australia is the cinematic choice: Sydney’s harbour, an island road trip through Hobart, Freycinet and Cradle Mountain, then Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road before a protected return to Sydney.
Spectacular seasonal fit, weakest budget fit. Choose it only if ₹6.2L-plus feels comfortable and an active route with domestic flights and two driving segments sounds exciting rather than exhausting.

01 / 05
1 arrival night + 3 final nights
Sydney
Harbour arrival and the protected final buffer
Sydney is split around the Tasmania and Victoria road trips. The first night absorbs the nonstop arrival before another flight; the final three nights give the harbour, coast and Blue Mountains room to breathe while protecting the long-haul home. This structure is operationally safer than beginning a rental-car journey immediately after an overnight flight.
Best base
CBD, Circular Quay edge or Surry Hills. The final stay should make the airport train and food access easy rather than chasing a harbour-view premium.
Arriving
QF68 is scheduled to land 10:30 on 26 October. Use the airport train, drop bags and keep the afternoon outdoors but light.
Moving on
For Tasmania, take a morning flight after a full Sydney night. On 10 November, reach SYD about three hours before QF67 at 09:30.
Expected weather
About 14–24°C with warm sun, cool harbour evenings and possible spring showers.
Getting around
Contactless card on trains, ferries and buses. Use ferries as sightseeing; avoid a rental car in the city.
Vegetarian reality
Sydney is easy for vegan dining. Brunch dishes, pastries and burger patties need explicit no-egg checks.
What makes the cut
Circular Quay → Botanic Garden recovery walk
Bondi–Coogee in the best coastal-weather window
Ferry to Manly or Watsons Bay
Blue Mountains only with usable visibility
Reserve ahead
Opera House tour/performance if important, and Blue Mountains transport only once the weather window is clearer.

Hobart & Tasman Peninsula
The supply stop and historic island opening
Hobart begins Tasmania gently: Salamanca’s sandstone, Battery Point, mountain weather on the horizon and a full Tasman Peninsula day. It is also the practical place to collect the car and buy strict-vegetarian supplies before the remote east-coast and Cradle Mountain stays.
Best base
CBD or Salamanca edge with parking available for the road day. Avoid a scenic hillside room that complicates every meal and transfer.
Arriving
Morning Sydney–Hobart flight. Collect the car only when needed; confirm luggage space, automatic transmission and excess reduction.
Moving on
Drive north/east toward Freycinet with Richmond or a coast stop. Avoid rural driving around dusk because wildlife activity rises.
Expected weather
Approximately 8–18°C, often crisp and pleasant but exposed coastlines feel colder.
Getting around
Walk central Hobart; self-drive the peninsula. Distances are manageable, but narrow roads and wildlife make conservative timing important.
Vegetarian reality
Hobart has several vegan options and good supermarkets. Stock shelf-stable meals, breakfast, fruit and snacks for the rural legs.
What makes the cut
Salamanca and Battery Point on arrival
Port Arthur with four unhurried hours
Tasman Arch / Devil’s Kitchen if conditions suit
A serious supermarket stock-up before Freycinet
Reserve ahead
Port Arthur entry and any guided experience. Check Tasmanian park-pass needs before collecting the car.

Freycinet
Granite, sea and one weather-led walking day
Freycinet works only when it has a full day. The first afternoon is for arrival and the coast; the next day chooses between Wineglass Bay lookout, the longer Hazards circuit or gentler beaches according to wind, rain and energy. Two nights keep you from driving onward exhausted after a hike.
Best base
Coles Bay or park edge, ideally with kitchenette. Confirm dinner opening hours before arrival.
Arriving
Drive from Hobart via the east coast. Fuel and buy supplies before the final approach.
Moving on
The cross-island drive to Cradle Mountain is long. Start after breakfast, stop meaningfully once and arrive well before dusk.
Expected weather
About 7–18°C; exposed tracks can be windy, wet and much colder than the thermometer.
Getting around
Self-drive to trailheads, then walk. Carry water and downloaded park maps; mobile coverage varies.
Vegetarian reality
Restaurant choice is limited and expensive. A kitchenette changes this stop from stressful to easy.
What makes the cut
Wineglass Bay lookout or longer circuit
Honeymoon Bay / Cape Tourville
One sunset near Coles Bay
No driving after a strenuous hike or after dark
Reserve ahead
Accommodation and park pass first. Choose the exact walk from the Bureau of Meteorology and park alerts, not months ahead.

Cradle Mountain
The wild-weather heart of the trip
Cradle Mountain is where spring can still become winter. Two nights provide one complete weather window for Dove Lake, Marion’s Lookout or shorter boardwalks and waterfalls. The goal is not to force a famous circuit; it is to choose the safest beautiful walk that the mountain offers that morning.
Best base
At the park edge, not a distant town. The premium buys weather flexibility, shuttle access and less wildlife-risk driving.
Arriving
Drive from Freycinet during daylight. Check in, understand the shuttle system and keep dusk for a short wildlife walk near the lodge.
Moving on
Drive to Launceston Airport with a wide buffer, return the car and fly to Melbourne. A late rural departure is not worth the risk.
Expected weather
Roughly 1–12°C; freezing wind chill, rain, sleet or brief snow are possible.
Getting around
Use park shuttles when operating. Carry warm/waterproof layers even for short walks and turn back early if conditions deteriorate.
Vegetarian reality
Pre-book dinner if the lodge can confirm it; otherwise self-cater. Do not assume a remote kitchen can improvise no-egg food late.
What makes the cut
Dove Lake circuit when wind and rain permit
Enchanted Walk / Pencil Pine as lower-risk alternatives
Wombat and wallaby spotting before darkness
A dry clothes set waiting in the room
Reserve ahead
Accommodation, park pass and any lodge dining. Hiking remains forecast-dependent.

Melbourne & Great Ocean Road
Design city plus a two-night coast road
Melbourne is both a city reset and the launch point for a proper Great Ocean Road drive. One full city day covers laneways, art and Scienceworks. The road then uses Apollo Bay and Port Campbell rather than attempting the classic but exhausting out-and-back day tour. Return inland for a final Melbourne night before flying to Sydney.
Best base
Melbourne CBD or Southbank without a car; Apollo Bay for night one on the road; Port Campbell for night two.
Arriving
Fly Launceston–Melbourne and use the SkyBus/transit. Collect the second rental car only on the road-trip morning.
Moving on
Return the car after the inland drive, then fly Melbourne–Sydney with checked-baggage allowance aligned to the international trip.
Expected weather
Melbourne about 10–22°C with abrupt changes; the coast is windier and can feel much colder.
Getting around
Trams and walking in Melbourne. On the road, keep lookouts geographically sequenced and avoid wildlife-active darkness.
Vegetarian reality
Melbourne is effortless for vegan food. Apollo Bay and Port Campbell need booked dinners or groceries before kitchens close.

Reddit pulse · anecdotal
Indian applicants on Reddit commonly praise the fully online filing but report highly variable decision times—from fast approvals to long silence. Cleanly labelled evidence, travel history and a short purpose letter are recurring recommendations; none guarantees timing.
