Choose Greece if history and beautiful roads matter more than beach weather. Mainland stays keep ferries and seasonal island closures out of the critical path. Six bases in eighteen days is the upper edge of movement, so each drive is short or purposeful and the final two nights are deliberately still.

Nafplio & Argolis
One elegant base for the northeastern Peloponnese
Nafplio keeps Mycenae, Epidaurus and the coast within short loops while the old town itself rewards every evening. The itinerary visits one major archaeological site per day and preserves the afternoons for the sea, lanes and a long meal.
Best base
Old-town edge with public parking access. Inside the lanes is atmospheric but difficult with a car and luggage.
Arriving
Drive from Athens via the Corinth Canal, avoiding any attempt to add Ancient Corinth and Mycenae to the same arrival day.

A fortified island after the day visitors leave
Monemvasia earns two nights because its atmosphere lives at dusk and early morning. The lower town is enough in rain; the upper fortress walk is only for dry stone, good light and confident footing.

Arriving
Park outside the historic settlement and carry only what is needed for two nights.
Moving on

Two nights turn Delphi into more than a coach stop. Arrive after the long drive, sleep, then enter the sanctuary at opening with the mountain light. The museum follows naturally; Arachova is optional, not another target.

Delphi village on the valley side, with parking and a confirmed open restaurant.
Arriving
The Monemvasia drive is the route’s longest. Stop frequently and never enter the mountain section after severe-weather warnings or darkness.
Moving on
Drive north toward Kalambaka after breakfast, allowing for slower mountain roads.

Monasteries suspended above the plain
Meteora is not improved by visiting every monastery. Two or three open houses, one viewpoint and one modest walk create a full day. The weekly closing pattern matters, as do modest clothing and the final entry times in short daylight.

Kastraki for immediate rock scenery, Kalambaka for rail and broader restaurant choice.
